Leon Wiegard OAM
Leon Wiegard OAM has an extensive water polo career, representing Australia in water polo at the Tokyo 1964 and Munich 1972 Olympic Games, as well as Captaining the Victorian Water Polo Men's Team for five years and coaching both the Men's and Women's Teams for a number of years. Subsequent to representing Australia at the Olympic Games on multiple occassions, Leon became a member of the original Olympic Games Commission and since then became the President of the Olympics Club in 1996 as well as becoming a Life member of the Victorian Olympic Council.
In addition to this Leon is a Life Member of the Australian Football League, one of the longest serving Directors of the VFL/AFL and was the Fitzroy Football Club President for five years.
After developing an industrial engineering business in the 60’s & 70’s he sold the company and stayed on as CEO for several years before starting Sportgard. Leon acts as a Consultant to several organisations including Carlton & United Breweries, Professional Golf Association and SSB Advertising. He combines his vast experience in sport with his business background as a former Managing Director of a large industrial company and Creative Head of a communications company.
He also has had an extensive career in radio on 3UZ and 3AW, including top rating Drive shows.
